ITIL 4 Digital and IT Strategy Practice Questions (Free Sample)

Free practice sample

Fifteen original ITIL 4 Leader: Digital and IT Strategy practice questions, unlocked with no signup and scored instantly at the same 70% the real paper demands. The mix is weighted to the seven examinable sections in their published proportions, so the sample leans where the exam leans, digital disruption and strategic approaches carry 20% each, implementing a strategy and the risk-and-opportunity material 17% each, and the service value system link just 3%.

DITS is written for people who will have to argue a position, not recite one. The questions that decide this paper hand you a board-level situation in which two or three responses are all defensible management, and ask which one a digital strategy actually calls for, whether the disruption is attacking your channel or your economics, whether to fund the next capability now or when revenue falls, whether a stalled strategy needs more communication or a different funding model. These questions are written to that standard, and every explanation names the winning answer and the near miss it beats. One thing this bank deliberately does not do: the guiding-principles learning outcome carries 0% of the multiple-choice weight, so no scored item here is written against it.

Scheme status, and one point about DITS that is widely reported out of date. PeopleCert released ITIL Version 5 in February 2026, and the current plan is to sunset all ITIL 4 modules on 31 December 2027. Digital and IT Strategy is live and examinable today, and a certificate earned now remains valid and renews on the normal three-year cycle. Separately: four practical assignments still accompany the module and accredited courses still work through them, but since 1 July 2024 PeopleCert no longer requires them to be marked, certification turns on the 30-question multiple-choice paper alone. Several training providers still describe the assignments as a scored 75% gate you must clear; that description is out of date. Confirm the current position with PeopleCert or your accredited provider before you book.

ITIL 4 Digital and IT Strategy Practice Questions

  1. Question 1 of 15How digital disruption affects the organization

A regional bank watches a new entrant offer, at no charge, a service the bank has always charged a fee for. The bank service has not degraded and its satisfaction scores are steady. The board asks whether this counts as digital disruption. Which reading is strongest?

  2. Question 2 of 15How digital disruption affects the organization

A manufacturer responds to a digital entrant by adding a customer mobile app to its existing offer while leaving its operating model, cost base and route to market untouched. Two years on, the app is well reviewed and margins have continued to fall. What is the best reading of the failure?

  3. Question 3 of 15How digital disruption affects the organization

A senior leader is convinced the organisation faces digital disruption but the leadership team disagrees about what to do. What is the most appropriate first action?

  4. Question 4 of 15The relationship between the service value system and the service value chain

A strategy team asks how a digital strategy relates to the service value system and the service value chain. Which statement is most accurate?

  5. Question 5 of 15How an organization remains viable in a digital environment

A profitable company finds that the capability its revenue rests on is steadily being commoditised by cheaper digital substitutes. Margins are healthy today. What does remaining viable most require of it now?

  6. Question 6 of 15How an organization remains viable in a digital environment

A board member argues that viability is simply a financial measure and that healthy accounts prove the organisation is viable. What is the most accurate response?

  7. Question 7 of 15Strategic approaches for the digital organization

A logistics firm operates on thin margins in a market where customers select suppliers almost entirely on price and reliability of delivery. Its digital strategy must choose an emphasis. Which strategic approach fits best?

  8. Question 8 of 15Strategic approaches for the digital organization

A proposed digital strategy commits the organisation to a low-cost, high-volume operating model and, on the same platform and with equal resourcing, a premium individually tailored service. What is the most serious weakness?

  9. Question 9 of 15Strategic approaches for the digital organization

Which consideration should carry the most weight when an organisation selects among candidate strategic approaches?

  10. Question 10 of 15Risks and opportunities of digital strategy

A digital strategy depends on a single platform vendor whose commercial terms could change materially at renewal. How should this be handled within the strategy?

  11. Question 11 of 15Risks and opportunities of digital strategy

A strategy team manages the risk side of its digital strategy entirely through a threat register with owners and mitigations. What is the most important thing this approach misses?

  12. Question 12 of 15Defining and advocating a digital strategy

A technology leader presents a digital strategy to the board as a sequenced roadmap of platforms, with costs and delivery dates. The board thanks them and defers the decision. What is the most likely explanation?

  13. Question 13 of 15Defining and advocating a digital strategy

Which of the following is the strongest evidence that a digital strategy has genuinely been defined rather than merely described?

  14. Question 14 of 15Implementing a digital strategy

A digital strategy has been approved and communicated, yet six months later delivery teams are still spending nearly all their capacity on pre-existing commitments. What is the most appropriate first action for the accountable leader?

  15. Question 15 of 15Implementing a digital strategy

A digital strategy rests on assumptions about how customers will behave that have not been tested in the market. Which approach to implementation is most appropriate?

Untimed, no account needed. Your score appears instantly. Add your email afterwards if you want the explanation for every question and a copy of your results.

Frequently asked questions about ITIL 4 Leader: Digital and IT Strategy

How long is the exam, and how many questions?

Thirty multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, closed book, with no negative marking. That is the shortest paper in this part of the scheme, its sibling modules run 40 questions in 90 minutes, so two minutes a question is the working budget, and DITS scenarios are long enough that the budget bites. Candidates sitting in a language that is not their first receive an additional 25% of time, giving 75 minutes. Confirm current logistics with PeopleCert when you book, since the format is theirs to set.

What score do I need to pass?

Twenty-one of 30, which is 70%, five points above the 65% that ITIL Foundation and the extension modules ask for. Every question carries one mark and a blank scores exactly what a wrong answer scores, so there is never a reason to leave one unanswered. This sample is scored at the same 70%, which means a pass here is an honest raw-score equivalent rather than a flattering one.

Are the four practical assignments still a scored gate I have to clear?

No, not since 1 July 2024. Four practical assignments still accompany the module and accredited courses still run them, but PeopleCert no longer requires them to be marked, so certification turns on the 30-question multiple-choice paper alone. A number of training provider pages still describe the assignments as an open-book component with a 75% pass threshold assessed by your trainer; that was the position under the earlier syllabus and it is now out of date. Treat the assignments as applied practice, which is genuinely useful preparation for a paper full of judgement questions, rather than as a second hurdle. Verify with PeopleCert or your provider before booking.

Why does this sample contain nothing on the ITIL guiding principles?

Because the guiding-principles learning outcome carries 0% of the multiple-choice weight. It was the outcome the four practical assignments addressed, and with those no longer requiring marking it contributes nothing to your score. Certifym does not sample it for scored items in either this free set or the paid bank. The principles remain worth understanding, they inform how the strategic material is reasoned about, but studying them will not earn you a mark on this paper.

Which sections should I spend the most time on?

Four sections carry 74% of the paper between them: how digital disruption affects the organization and strategic approaches for the digital organization at 20% each, then risks and opportunities of digital strategy and implementing a digital strategy at 17% each. Remaining viable in a digital environment adds 13% and defining and advocating a digital strategy 10%. The relationship between the service value system and the service value chain is 3%, roughly one question, so it is worth an hour, not a week.

What are the prerequisites, and is accredited training really mandatory?

You need ITIL 4 Foundation, any ITIL v3 certification, or an ITIL 4 Managing Professional certificate. Accredited training is mandatory and it is enforced at the results stage: exam results are withheld without proof of completion. Budget accordingly. The exam bundle starts from $649 USD against a $865 list price, and the accredited course is a separate cost on top unless you buy a bundle that carries it.

Should I take ITIL 4 Digital and IT Strategy or wait for Version 5?

DITS is examinable today and the current plan is to sunset all ITIL 4 modules on 31 December 2027, so a certificate earned now has a defined shelf life as a scheme entry, though the certificate itself remains valid and renews normally on the three-year cycle. It also completes ITIL 4 Strategic Leader when paired with Direct, Plan and Improve. If your goal is the Strategic Leader designation or your employer is asking for DITS specifically, take it now; if you are starting from nothing and want the longest runway, the Version 5 track is the newer investment. PeopleCert has said the recommended onward path for DITS holders runs through the Version 5 Strategy and Transformation modules.

How is this free sample different from the full Certifym bank?

The sample is a fixed 15-question set spread across the seven examinable sections at syllabus proportions, with no account needed and no repeat attempts against new items. The full Certifym bank is ten independent 100-question sets, each weighted to the same official percentages and scored at the same 70% pass mark, with explanations written to the same standard. None of the paid-bank items appears in this sample.
