ITIL 4 Business Relationship Management Practice Questions (Free Sample)

Fifteen original ITIL 4 Specialist: Business Relationship Management practice questions, unlocked with no signup and scored instantly at the same 65% the real paper demands. The mix follows the published section weights, so three of the seven sections (key concepts, value streams and processes, and developing the capability) take 60% of the sample between them, exactly as they take 60% of the exam.

BRM is the relationship discipline, and its exam is written accordingly: you are given a situation in which two or three responses are all reasonable account management, and asked which one the practice actually calls for. Whether a stalled handover needs another escalation or a redesigned value stream. Whether a commodity customer should be offered a partnership model or a lighter one. Whether a fading capability initiative was too small or simply never embedded past its sponsor. These questions are written to that standard, and every explanation names the winning answer and the near miss it beats.

Read this before you book. PeopleCert released ITIL Version 5 in February 2026, and the current plan is to sunset all ITIL 4 modules on 31 December 2027. Business Relationship Management is live and examinable today, and a certificate earned now remains valid and renews on the normal three-year cycle. But the ITIL 4 extension modules are not carried into the Version 5 qualification scheme, so BRM has no Version 5 successor to upgrade into. PeopleCert has said their content has been absorbed into the broader Version 5 guidance. Nor does an extension module open the shortcut: holding only an extension module does not qualify you for the ITIL Foundation Bridge (Version 5), and PeopleCert names Acquiring and Managing Cloud Services and Sustainability in Digital and IT as explicit bridge exclusions. BRM costs from $668 USD with accredited training mandatory on top, so choose it because you want the subject matter and the credential now, not as a stepping stone into Version 5, because it is not one.

ITIL 4 Business Relationship Management Practice Questions

  1. Question 1 of 15Key concepts of business relationship management

A provider has relationship managers who are contacted by the customer only when a service has failed badly enough to warrant escalation. Satisfaction is poor despite the managers responding well every time. What is the most accurate diagnosis?

  2. Question 2 of 15Key concepts of business relationship management

An organisation already runs service level management, with regular reporting against agreed targets, and asks why it should also invest in business relationship management. What is the strongest answer?

  3. Question 3 of 15Key concepts of business relationship management

A relationship manager tells a customer that the provider will deliver the value the customer is seeking from a new service. How should this commitment be corrected?

  4. Question 4 of 15Value streams and processes

A customer need identified by the relationship manager consistently stalls at the point where it is handed over to service design. Individual cases are eventually rescued by escalation. What is the most useful first action?

  5. Question 5 of 15Value streams and processes

A provider has documented its business relationship management processes in detail, named the roles and published the flowcharts. A year on, engagement with customers is still almost entirely reactive. What is the most likely explanation?

  6. Question 6 of 15Value streams and processes

Which statement best describes what a business relationship management value stream is for?

  7. Question 7 of 15Models and techniques

A customer buys a standardised, high-volume service almost entirely on price and has said it wants minimal ongoing interaction. The relationship manager proposes a deep partnership model with joint planning sessions and shared roadmaps. How should this proposal be judged?

  8. Question 8 of 15Models and techniques

A relationship manager builds a stakeholder map that lists the customer signatories to the agreement and their deputies. What is the most significant weakness?

  9. Question 9 of 15Roles, skills and organizational structures

A relationship manager sits inside the delivery organisation and reports to the delivery manager whose commitments they are expected to challenge on the customer behalf. How should this structure be assessed?

  10. Question 10 of 15Roles, skills and organizational structures

A provider staffs its business relationship management roles entirely with experienced technical service managers. They handle operational detail impeccably, but customers report that strategic conversations go nowhere. What is the most appropriate response?

  11. Question 11 of 15Information and technology

Everything known about a major customer relationship lives in the notes, mailbox and personal recall of one relationship manager. When that manager leaves, the relationship effectively restarts. What is the best reading of this situation?

  12. Question 12 of 15Partners and suppliers

An outcome the relationship manager has committed to depends substantially on a subcontracted partner whose performance the relationship manager does not see, because the contract is held by another function. How should this be handled?

  13. Question 13 of 15Developing the business relationship management capability

An organisation decides to build a business relationship management capability and begins by appointing relationship managers across every account at once. What is the most significant risk?

  14. Question 14 of 15Developing the business relationship management capability

What is the primary purpose of assessing the maturity of a business relationship management capability?

  15. Question 15 of 15Developing the business relationship management capability

A capability-building initiative produces good early results while a senior sponsor champions it, then fades within a year of that sponsor moving to another role. What lesson should the organisation take?

Untimed, no account needed. Your score appears instantly. Add your email afterwards if you want the explanation for every question and a copy of your results.

Frequently asked questions about ITIL 4 Specialist: Business Relationship Management

How many questions are on the real exam, and how long do I get?

Forty multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, closed book, with no negative marking. That is a comfortable ratio on paper, and it needs to be: BRM scenarios run long, and the paper rewards reading the situation rather than the keyword. Candidates sitting in a language that is not their first receive an additional 25% of time, giving 113 minutes. Confirm current logistics with PeopleCert when you book, since the format is theirs to set.

What score do I need to pass?

Twenty-six of 40, which is 65%, the same threshold as ITIL Foundation, and five points below the 70% the Strategic Leader modules ask for. Every question carries one mark and a blank scores exactly what a wrong answer scores, so there is never a reason to leave one unanswered. This sample is scored at the same 65%, which makes a pass here an honest raw-score equivalent rather than a flattering one.

Does BRM lead anywhere in ITIL Version 5?

No, and this is the single most important thing to understand before you pay. The ITIL 4 extension modules are not part of the Version 5 qualification scheme, PeopleCert has said their content was absorbed into the broader Version 5 guidance, so BRM has no Version 5 successor module to upgrade into and contributes to no Version 5 designation. It is also not a designation module within ITIL 4: unlike Create, Deliver and Support or Direct, Plan and Improve, it is a standalone specialist credential. What you are buying is the subject knowledge and the certificate itself, which is a perfectly good reason to buy it, just not a scheme-progression one.

If I hold BRM, do I qualify for the ITIL Foundation Bridge (Version 5)?

Not on the strength of BRM alone. The bridge is open to holders of ITIL 4 certifications, but extension modules generally do not carry forward, and PeopleCert names Acquiring and Managing Cloud Services and Sustainability in Digital and IT as explicit exclusions from it. Holding only an extension module does not put you on the bridge the way a core ITIL 4 certificate such as ITIL 4 Foundation does. If your route into Version 5 matters to you, secure a core ITIL 4 certificate for that purpose and treat BRM as a separate decision. Check your own eligibility with PeopleCert before you rely on it either way.

Which sections should I spend the most time on?

Three sections carry 60% of the paper between them, at 20% each: key concepts of business relationship management, value streams and processes, and developing the business relationship management capability. Models and techniques adds 17.5% and roles, skills and organizational structures 12.5%. Information and technology and partners and suppliers are 5% each, around two questions apiece, so they deserve familiarity rather than depth.

What are the prerequisites, and what will it actually cost?

You need ITIL 4 Foundation, any ITIL v3 certification, or an ITIL 4 Managing Professional certificate. Accredited training is mandatory, so this is not an exam you can self-study and simply book. The exam is listed from $668 USD against a $891 list price, and the accredited course sits on top of that unless you buy a bundle that carries it. Given that outlay and the scheme position above, price the whole package before committing.

Should I take ITIL 4 Business Relationship Management or something in Version 5?

Both schemes are live. ITIL 4 modules are planned to sunset on 31 December 2027, and BRM specifically does not carry into Version 5, so if your goal is a credential with onward progression the Version 5 track is the better investment. If you want this subject matter, your employer asks for this certificate, or you work in a relationship management role now, BRM is examinable today and the certificate you earn remains valid and renews normally on the three-year cycle after the sunset. Decide on which of those two things you actually need.

How is this free sample different from the full Certifym bank?

The sample is a fixed 15-question set spread across the seven sections at syllabus proportions, with no account needed and no fresh items on a repeat attempt. The full Certifym bank is ten independent 100-question sets, each weighted to the same official percentages and scored at the same 65% pass mark, with explanations written to the same standard. None of the paid-bank items appears in this sample.
