This is a free, self-paced reading course for CompTIA Cloud+ (CV0-004) — the vendor-neutral credential for the people who actually run cloud infrastructure, rather than the people who design slideware about it. Cloud+ is unusual among cloud certifications in that it is not tied to one provider’s console. What it tests is the judgment that transfers between AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and a private cloud in your own data center: choosing the right service and deployment model, designing for availability, migrating workloads without losing a weekend, and troubleshooting across the network, storage, and identity layers where cloud problems actually live.
The course is organized as one module per official exam domain, in the order CompTIA publishes them, and each module carries the domain’s published weight. That matters on CV0-004 in particular, because the September 2024 refresh moved the center of gravity: architecture grew from 13% of the exam to 23%, and an entirely new DevOps Fundamentals domain arrived. Reading in the published order and weight keeps your study time proportional to the exam — architecture, deployment, and security alone are 61% of it. What the course covers
Cloud Architecture
Module 1 · 23%The heaviest domain, and the one that asks you to think like an architect: service and deployment models from IaaS through FaaS and public through hybrid, high availability across zones and regions, disaster recovery patterns from backup-restore to active-active, horizontal versus vertical scaling, object versus block versus file storage, cloud networking, containers, and loose coupling. Expect trade-off questions — given a scenario, which model, pattern, or storage type is the best fit, not merely a workable one.
Deployment
Module 2 · 19%Getting workloads into the cloud and standing them up correctly: migration types (P2V, V2V, rehost, replatform, refactor), large-scale data seeding, subnetting and CIDR planning, VPN and dedicated interconnect, DNS cutover mechanics, infrastructure-as-code provisioning, golden images, deployment testing, and the change-window discipline — rollback plans and go/no-go criteria — that separates a migration from an outage.
Operations
Module 3 · 17%Day-two reality: baselines and alert tuning, the distinction between SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs, backup design across full, incremental, differential, snapshot, and 3-2-1 approaches, retention and lifecycle management, patching rings and maintenance windows, and cost optimization — reserved capacity, right-sizing, scheduling, showback and chargeback, and catching the anomaly before it lands on the invoice.
Security
Module 4 · 19%Tied with Deployment for second-heaviest. Identity and access management — least privilege, MFA, SSO federation, conditional access, privileged access management — plus encryption at rest and in transit, key management and HSMs, secrets management, network segmentation, WAF and DDoS protection, zero trust, DLP, vulnerability management, hardening baselines, and incident response fundamentals.
DevOps Fundamentals
Module 5 · 10%New in CV0-004: CI/CD pipeline structure, Git workflows and protected branches, infrastructure as code and configuration drift, idempotency, deployment strategies including canary, rolling, blue-green, and feature flags, immutable artifacts, container orchestration concepts, and pipeline security. It carries the smallest weight of the six, but do not treat it as optional — its concepts leak into scenario questions across every other domain.
Troubleshooting
Module 6 · 12%The CompTIA troubleshooting methodology applied to cloud failure modes: DNS and routing faults, security-group and firewall misconfigurations, VPN tunnels that establish but pass nothing, MTU problems, IOPS ceilings, memory leaks, expired certificates, quota limits, clock skew, and noisy neighbors. These questions cut across every other domain, which is why they reward practitioners over readers.
How to use it
Read a module, then test it rather than waiting until you have finished all six. Cloud+ questions frequently offer several defensible options with exactly one best answer, so read explanations even for the items you got right — the reason a near-miss loses is usually the thing being tested.
This is not a first certification. CompTIA recommends two to three years of hands-on systems administration or cloud engineering experience, with Network+ and Server+ level knowledge, before attempting CV0-004 — and the exam behaves accordingly. There are no formal prerequisites, but CompTIA recommends two to three years of hands-on systems administration or cloud engineering experience, plus Network+ and Server+ level knowledge. If networking fundamentals are shaky, work through Network+ first — subnetting, routing, and DNS turn up in four of the six Cloud+ domains.
What should I do after finishing the course?
Move to the Cloud+ sample questions and then the full-length timed mock on the certification guide, working until you are clearing every domain consistently rather than leaning on architecture and security. Then book the exam.
